It's been brought to my attention that there might be some issues regarding allowing seventeen year olds to play in an adult-themed game, as Livejournal Servers are based in the USA and their age of consent is higher.  In order to keep this a safe place to play for all of us, I am going to be raising the admissible players age to 18 and older.

I'm truly sorry for the confusion, I was relying on my own country's age of consent instead of America's and didn't realize it would be a potential problem.

Once again, players at Eleusinian Mysteries must be 18 years of age or older in order to apply here.  However, I will be keeping the appable characters age to 17 and over.

Thank you.

Game Premise

Your character has been unceremoniously dropped on one of a trio of islands connected by a series of bridges. One island is populated with females, the other with males, while the third island is shrouded in mystery but it is said that if you can get to the third island you may find the means to return to your home.

Each bridge is guarded by the followers of Eros, larger than life giants who cannot be killed. However, they can be bribed.

Sexual encounters on the island are considered offerings to Eros and are rewarded with golden tokens. The more kinky the sexual act, the more tokens can be gained. A sufficient amount of tokens are the only thing that can compel the guard at the bridge to move aside for you, however, it is impossible to know which bridge you are crossing, as the island plays tricks and shifts and travels as if by magic.

Perhaps you will only be transported to the island of the opposite sex, in which case your stay is temporary until Eros' followers find you and bring you back.

Perhaps you will reach the third island and find your way home, only to be brought back later.

Perhaps you will get to stay. Or perhaps you will just remain lost on that island, sacrificed to Eros. It's worth the risk to try, isn't it?

Why You Are Here

Hedone, the daughter of Eros, has been charged with gathering offerings for the Eleusinian Mysteries, a sacred ceremony that celebrates the act of love.  In order to please her father, Hedone has taken people from different times and universes and separated them on different islands.  Every act of love that takes place on these islands is considered an offering to Eros.

If Hedone feels not enough offerings are being made, she may interfere in certain ways, such as ensuring that no clothing may stay on a person's body for a day, or adding aphrodisiacs to the rain.

Tokens can buy your passage to other islands or home.  They can also be traded for luxury items such as beds, lodgings in the Atrium, more fashionable clothing, tools, and access to the gods' marketplace.

Communication

Hedone uses reflective surfaces to communicate with island-dwellers, and gave each one a hand-held mirror upon entry for that purpose.  However, in her eagerness she's managed to make every reflective surface on the island a potential two-way communication device.  If island-dwellers wish to talk to each other, they need only look into a mirror or a still lake in order to address others, and can direct their call by saying the name of the other person if they do not wish to talk to everyone near a mirror.

Unfortunately, Hedone's power is not an exact science.  Reflective surfaces may broadcast without warning or prompting, so if you are doing something embarrassing, you might do well to cover your mirrors with a heavy cloth first.

Blessings

Every so often, Hedone will get impatient about the number of offerings being made and rearrange the conditions of the island to help its occupants fulfill their purpose.  These instances are called "blessings" and those who are afflicted are referred to as "the blessed".  There is no way of knowing who will become blessed, however, those who have not made many offerings to Eros will be the main targets.  The good news is that a blessing may last, at most, three days.  Hedone is a busy person, after all.  She has things to do.

Death

While you are on the island, death is not permanent.  If you manage to get yourself killed, then your body will be transported to the Temple of Hades temporarily, until your life is bargained for by Hedone.  While your life is being bargained for, you will walk the realm of Hades as a shade, unable to touch or be touched, see or be seen.  The bargaining period takes at least a week to complete and once you are returned to your body there is yet another price to pay for being silly enough to die in the first place.  Hedone will take any tokens you have managed to amass as reimbursement, and if you have no tokens you must work as a slave in the Temple until your debt is paid, cleaning and caring for the bodies inside.

Locations

Arsenikos - The Men's Island

Arsenikos mostly consists of a leafy, jungle mainland surrounded by  white-sand beaches.  A clearing has been made for the marketplaces and the hut-like apartments where residents of the island may stay, but it's easy to get lost in the jungle and many creatures hunt there at night.

Each hut consists of a fire pit and cooking area, four cots, meager cooking supplies and utensils, bedding, a fresh-water pump, two lanterns with oil, and a clean white robe.

There are two different marketplaces, the first which is open and free to any who pass through, and the Gods' Marketplace which requires gold tokens to barter with.  The regular market provides local fresh fruit, bread, goat milk, cheese, wineskins, and small amounts of meat from rabbits, deer, goat, and fish.  No money is required to obtain food at the regular market.

The Gods' Marketplace boasts of having everything and anything a person could wish for, including, it is said, special items from one's homeworld.  But these come at a price.

The Atrium is a palace-like structure on the highest hill of the island, and it looks down over the Gods' Marketplace.  Inside the Atrium are rooms of opulent luxury, with large, soft beds and rich fabrics.  Lodgings at the Atrium also require a certain amount of tokens.

The Baths are located south of the regular marketplace.  A natural hotspring has been split into several small pools that trickle down into a warm-water lagoon.  The water in this hotspring is said to have natural healing qualities.

Thilykos - The Women's Island

Thilykos is a lush rainforest that is surrounded by a rocky shoreline.  Exotic animals and plants abound in the leafy green canopy and the rain can come down like a gentle mist or a hurricane depending on Hedone's mood.  The small women's huts are laid near the shoreline in a cleared space.

The Garden is located east of the Atrium.  A grove of orange trees surrounds a clearing where the grass is as soft as any bed.  It is rumored that if you suck the juice of an orange from one of these trees, you will have visions of your home.

Eleusis - The Third Island

This island isn't easy to reach and once you land there, there is no guarantee that you will remember your stay.  The island itself is shrouded in a thick mist that seems easy to get lost in.

Every so often, Hedone will gather together people from each island to take part in a ritual ceremony on Eleusis, provided they have made enough offerings to Eros to be considered priests and priestesses.  These ceremonies will be presided over by the Heirophant.

Character-made locations

Characters are free to make their own stalls in the regular marketplace, or build their own houses, but keep in mind that the tools they need to do these things must be bought at the Gods' Marketplace with tokens.

Gameplay

1.  This is an adult-themed game.  Even though your characters are not required to have intercourse, it will still feature in many of the events and posts of the players.  With this in mind, we ask that players be 18 years of age and older, and the characters they play be aged seventeen and older.

2.  After you are accepted into the game, you may request to join the main comm - Eluesis, the male island - Arsenikos, the female island - Thilykos, and the OOC comm.  Your request should be granted within 24 hours, but if it is not please inform a moderator.  Please also make sure you list your character on the Taken Characters list.

3.  Please use the tag system when you post in any of the comms.  List the character you are posting with, as well as any warnings or kinks in your post.

4.  There is to be no godmodeing or 4th Wall breaking in the game.

5.  Characters of all mediums and sexualities are welcome to play.  PB's for your characters are not necessary but permitted if you prefer to use them.

6.  Sex and sexually-themed threads are encouraged but not necessary for gameplay.  If you do not wish to play out sex it is perfectly acceptable to fade-to-black, as they say, but keep in mind that there will be explicit sexual content in the game.

7.  This is a community-based rpg.  All character logs must be posted to either the main comm, the men's comm, or the women's comm in order to count towards activity.  Journals may be used for OOC purposes, memes, HMDs, character analysis and such, if wanted.

8.  Characters can communicate with each other in two ways: face-to-face interaction and through use of reflective surfaces such as mirrors.

9.  If you are going on hiatus or dropping your character, you must leave a comment in the HIATUS/DROP post.  Dropped characters are automatically sent home, however a player may decide if their hiatus'd character has been sent home, reached the island of the opposite sex, or are lost on the third island for the duration.

10.  No genderswitched characters, AU characters, or doubles of characters are permitted.

11.  Characters who engage in sex on the island will receive golden tokens.  The kinkier the sex act, the more tokens are received, although the exact number of tokens can vary and characters are not permitted to know the exact worth of the tokens they have earned until they have gained enough to bribe the guardians of the bridges or buy the item of their choosing in the marketplace.  It is up to the player to decide when their character has earned the right amount to leave their island.

12.  We know some characters are incredibly godmode-y and all-powerful and the like, but for the purposes of the game and everyone's sanity, characters who could potentially blow up the world or fly over the bridges or break the game in any other way will have somehow lost their ability to do so.

13.  Characters may post to Arsenikos and Thilykos in two ways:  action logs that are in third person, and through reflective surfaces (mirrors) as a sort of video transmitter.  The format for logs is given in the profile of each island comm.  Mirror posts are more like what a webcam broadcast would be like.

14.  Characters must be humanoid in nature in order to enter the game.  For example, characters who are not human but have a mostly human body are permitted, but animals/machines/floating heads in a jar are not.  If you would like to app a character who does not have a human body, you must contact the moderators first about it before applying.

15.  For the purposes of this game, although gender is fluid, you need to tell us if your character has male anatomy or female anatomy in order for us to place them on the correct island.  For characters who can change their sex, or who don't have an apparent sex, you must choose one to become permanent for them while they are on the island.

16.  If your character dies or is killed in the game, their body will be taken to the Temple of Hades and it will be a week before that character is playable again.  Characters who die have whatever tokens they have amassed taken away from them.  If they have no tokens, they are forced to work at the Temple for a period of three weeks.   This is to ensure that there are consequences for death in the game.

Applications and Reserves

1.  You may only reserve one character per reserve week.  If you decide you would rather reserve another character after already putting in one reserve, then you must cancel your first before putting in another.  Reserves last until the start of an application session.

2.  You may app up to two characters per application session.

3.  A reserve means that the application mods will wait until the player who made the reservation hands their app in to make a decision.  It does not mean that only one person may apply for that character.

4.  Players may have up to five characters in the game.  Those who fail to make the Activity Check Requirements may have their amount of characters limited.

5.  Players may only app up to three characters from the same fandom.

Conflict and Contact

1.  Players must have one listed contact (email, AIM, PM, etc.) where they can be reached.  It is recommended that players have an area for concrit in their journals.

2.  Please contact moderators with problems or questions you might have about the game.  Moderators can be reached through email at: eleusinianmods@aim.com, on AIM at eleusinianmods or by commenting in the Problems/Questions section.

3.  We understand that characters develop according to their experiences and the setting they are in.  With that in mind, please try to keep your character as IC as possible considering their circumstances.  Complaints about OOC characters will be investigated by the moderators and, if the complaint is valid, the player will be notified about the complain so they can rectify it.

4.  Moderators reserve the right to ban or suspend players without issuing a warning in extreme situations.

Activity Checks

1.  In order to fulfill the activity requirements, each character must have one of the following per month:
- 2 comment spam conversations of at least 20 comments for that character
- 2 posts to one of the main communities that have been actively tagged back

2.  Players must complete an activity check at the beginning of each month (for the previous month's activity) by posting links to their activity in a moderated activity check post.  Those who miss the activity check will be given a reminder and three days to post links of their activity before their characters are removed from the Taken List.

3.  Exceptions to activity checks are players who have joined in the month of the activity check and characters who are on hiatus and have posted that hiatus in the HIATUS/DROP post.

4.  If you are going to be away from the game for longer than two weeks, we ask that you put your characters on hiatus.  A player can put their characters on hiatus for up to a month of gameplay only.

5.  Players who repeatedly struggle with activity checks may have their amount of appable characters capped until activity improves.
